Not every surgical problem in the mouth is a tooth. Cysts form in the jawbone and grow silently until an X-ray finds them. Lumps appear in the cheek or on the tongue and need identifying. An infection at the tip of a root survives a root canal and needs surgical removal.
These are day procedures done under local anaesthetic here at the clinic, by a surgeon who does them regularly.
Any lump, ulcer or white or red patch in the mouth that has not healed in three weeks should be looked at. That is not a reason to panic — the great majority turn out to be harmless — but it is a reason not to wait.

Oral surgery in Jodhpur — common questions
I have a lump in my mouth. Should I be worried?
Most are harmless — a blocked salivary gland, a trauma lump from biting the cheek, a fibroma. But anything that has not healed in three weeks should be examined rather than watched, because the ones that matter are far easier to treat early.
What is an apicoectomy?
When infection persists at the tip of a root after a root canal, the tip is surgically removed through the gum and sealed. It saves a tooth that would otherwise have to be extracted.
Do you screen for oral cancer?
Every examination here includes a check of the soft tissues. This matters particularly in India, where tobacco and paan chewing make oral cancer far more common than in most countries. If you chew, ask us to look properly and to show you what to watch for.
