A crown is a cap that covers a tooth completely. It is what holds a root-treated or heavily broken tooth together, and it is the difference between that tooth lasting years and cracking in half on a piece of chikki.
A bridge replaces a missing tooth by joining crowns on the teeth either side of the gap. It is fixed in place — nothing comes out at night — and it is the usual alternative when an implant is not suitable or not affordable.
Material matters here and it is where most of the price difference comes from. We will walk you through zirconia, metal-free ceramic and metal-ceramic honestly, including where the cheaper option is perfectly sensible.
Most of the crowns we fit follow a root canal. A root-treated tooth has had its inside hollowed out and becomes brittle, so it needs covering rather than filling — which is why the two treatments are usually quoted together, and why a crown is not an optional extra afterwards.

Zirconia or metal-ceramic — what is the difference?
Metal-ceramic (PFM) is porcelain over a metal base: strong, cheaper, but can show a dark line at the gum over time. Zirconia is metal-free, translucent like a real tooth and very strong. For a front tooth zirconia is worth the difference; for a back molar, either works.
Bridge or implant for a missing tooth?
An implant does not touch the neighbouring teeth, which is its big advantage — a bridge requires filing down two healthy teeth. If those neighbours already need crowns anyway, a bridge makes good sense. If they are perfectly healthy, we would usually suggest an implant.
How long do crowns last?
Ten years and often well beyond, provided the gum underneath stays healthy. Crowns do not decay, but the tooth underneath them can at the margin — which is why cleanings still matter.
