When most of the teeth in a jaw are gone or going, replacing them one at a time is neither affordable nor sensible. Full mouth implants take a different approach: four to six implants are placed into the jawbone, and a complete fixed bridge of teeth is secured onto them. It does not come out. You clean it like teeth, you eat what you like, and nothing moves when you speak.
This is the treatment people mean when they search for All-on-4 or All-on-6. The number is simply how many implants carry the arch. Four is often enough in a lower jaw, where the bone is denser; upper jaws more often need six, because the bone is softer and the sinus sits above the back teeth.
It is the largest treatment in dentistry, in cost and in consequence, and it is the one where who performs the surgery matters most. All-on-4, All-on-6, or one implant per tooth?
These are three genuinely different treatments and the gap in cost between them is large, so it is worth understanding before anyone quotes you.
Replacing every tooth with its own implant is by far the most expensive option, and for a full arch it is rarely the right one — a jaw does not need fourteen implants to hold fourteen teeth. Full-arch techniques exist precisely because four to six well-placed implants can carry a whole arch safely.
Which suits you is decided by the scan, not by preference. All-on-4 angles the back implants to make use of bone that is still solid, which often avoids grafting altogether. All-on-6 spreads the load across more fixtures and is the safer choice in softer upper-jaw bone, or where bite forces are heavy — in someone who grinds, for instance.

What actually drives the cost
Quotes for full mouth implants vary more than for any other dental treatment, and patients comparing them are rarely comparing the same thing. Five factors account for almost all of the difference.
Ask any clinic to name the implant system in writing. A quote that will not name it is not a quote you can compare — and in fifteen years, when a component needs replacing, whether that part is still manufactured stops being an abstract question.

Teeth in a day — what that really means
Same-day or immediate-loading treatment means the implants and a fixed temporary bridge go in at the same appointment. You walk out with teeth. It is real, it is routine in the right case, and it is one of the genuine advances in implant dentistry.
What it does not mean is that treatment finishes that day. The bridge fitted on day one is a temporary. The bone still needs three to six months to fuse to the implants, and the permanent bridge is made after that. Any clinic implying you are finished in twenty-four hours is describing the temporary and hoping you will not ask.
It is also not possible for everyone. Immediate loading requires the implants to be rock-steady the moment they are placed, which depends on bone quality. If your scan does not support it, doing it anyway risks losing the implants — so we would say no, and you would wear a temporary denture for a few months instead.
If you have been told there is not enough bone
This is the most common reason people are turned away from full-arch implants, and it is frequently not the end of the matter. Bone shrinks once teeth have been missing for years, because nothing is loading it any more — so the longer a denture has been worn, the less bone there usually is.
There are several ways around it. Angled placement can use bone that is still solid without adding anything. Grafting and sinus lifts rebuild the site over several months. In severe upper-jaw loss, zygomatic implants anchor into the cheekbone rather than the jaw — a demanding procedure that belongs with a maxillofacial surgeon rather than a general implant practice.
If another clinic has told you it cannot be done, a second opinion with a CT scan is worth having. We will give you a straight answer, including when the honest one is that a well-made implant-supported denture would serve you better.
Looking after them
Implants do not decay. What they do get is gum disease around them — peri-implantitis — and that is what loses them. The bridge has to be cleaned underneath daily, with the brushes we show you, and checked professionally a few times a year.
Smoking is the single biggest risk factor for implant failure, and it is worth being blunt about that before you spend this much money. If you grind your teeth you will need a night guard: the forces that wore your own teeth down will work on a bridge too.

The surgery is done under anaesthetic, so not at the time. Expect swelling and soreness for several days afterwards — more than for a single implant, because more is being done — managed with prescribed medication. Most patients describe the first week as uncomfortable rather than painful.
How long do full mouth implants last?
The implants themselves commonly last decades and often for life. The bridge on top is a wearing part: depending on material, expect to refurbish or replace it eventually, as you would with anything used every day for twenty years. Gum health and not smoking are what decide the implants' fate.
I already wear a denture. Can I switch to fixed teeth?
Very often, yes, and it is one of the most transformative treatments in dentistry — particularly for a lower denture that has never stayed put. The main question is how much bone remains after years of wearing it, which the scan answers. If a full fixed bridge is not realistic, clipping your existing denture onto two implants costs far less and still stops it moving.
Can the cost be spread out?
Treatment can usually be staged so payment follows the stages rather than landing at once — one arch at a time, for instance. What cannot be staged is the planning: the whole sequence has to be decided up front, or later work undoes earlier work.
Why not go abroad, or to a bigger city, for this?
People do, and for a single arch the saving is often smaller than it first looks once travel and time are counted. The bigger issue is afterwards. Implant work needs reviews, adjustments and occasional repairs across decades, and a bridge placed a flight away is hard to maintain. Having the surgeon who placed your implants twenty minutes from your house is worth more than most patients expect at the outset.
